Known for its country clubs and natural parks, Nova Iguaçu is a city in the northern suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, in so called Baixada Fluminense ("Rio's lowlands"). With a population of 820,000 people, Nova Iguaçu is a residential city where commerce and services play a key role in the local economy. The city is home to eight universities, three modern shopping malls, and five cultural centers. BR-116, the primary longitudinal highway of the country, traverses the city, highlighting its strategic position.

Following the closure of the Nova Iguaçu Airdrome (QNV) for air taxi flights in the 2010s, the local aviation community shifted their operations to the neighboring airports of Jacarepaguá (RRJ), Santos Dumont (SDU), and Galeão (GIG), as well as other heliports of Rio de Janeiro.
