Incredible waterfalls, creative walks, charming trails, restaurants, hotels, and first-class kiosks… all that and a little more can be found in Ilhabela, a municipality located on the north coast of São Paulo. Due to the distance from the capital (only 200 kilometers), the air taxi in Ilhabela is an excellent option to avoid road traffic or ferry crossings, always subject to weather conditions.

Bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, the island is one of the 15 seaside resorts in the state, a title granted to tourist cities that offer excellence in requirements such as conditions for leisure, recreation, natural resources, cultural programs, infrastructure, etc.

The title also guarantees more public investment in tourism, which is not for nothing the basis of the local economy. In partnership, city hall, government, and private initiatives promote several events throughout the year in the city, attracting tourists even in low season. Some of the programs that draw the most attention are: Ilhabela in Jazz, Festival do Camarão, XTerra Brazil, and International Sailing Week.

While today it is very consolidated, tourism in Ilhabela began to develop only in 1960, when the ferry crossing was implemented. Before that, the population was basically native caiçaras, a group that still lives in many isolated regions of the city, surviving on fishing and handicrafts.

Another push for the industry took place in 2014, as Ilhabela was selected as one of the 65 tourism-inducing cities in Brazil for the World Cup. For tourists, the city was highlighted as a sea and sun destination to take a walk with the family, rest, visit the sea, practice sports, and perform outdoor challenges.

Despite the diversity of attractions, the local highlights are the beaches and the fauna and flora, predominantly from the Atlantic Forest. Almost 85% of the municipality’s territory is within the Ilhabela State Park, which works to preserve the biome, having been declared a biosphere reserve by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco). Whale sightings are common on the island.

São Paulo – Ilhabela via air taxi

To enjoy all that Ilhabela has to offer departing from São Paulo via air taxi, there are four main options for boarding: Congonhas Airport (CGH; SBSP), Guarulhos International Airport (GRU; SBGR), Campo de Marte (SBMT) and Catarina International Executive Airport (SBJH).

The landing site in Ilhabela is the Heliponto Maroum (SJDO), the main point of entry by air into the city. The airfield is private and requires careful operation by the pilot, as it is located in a residential area and close to a hospital. It is also close to the ferry and the beaches of Barra Vermelha, Pereque, and Itaguaçu.

Aircraft available for air taxi between São Paulo and Ilhabela

This route is made exclusively by helicopters. The most affordable models available are the single-engine ones known as Esquilo – the Airbus AS350, in its different variations.

In the simplest version, the B2, there are up to four passengers in the rear seats and one next to the pilot. The seats are ergonomic and with a shoulder separation offering great comfort and safety. As they sit facing forward, passengers can easily enjoy the panoramic view, which is essential on the transfer to Ilhabela. The luggage compartment accommodates up to three medium-sized suitcases or five carry-on bags.

In the B3 model, the engines have been improved and the adjustable energy-absorbing seats, together with the low-vibration cabin, increase the comfort of the flight. The BA version, on the other hand, features a new and more performing propeller. The prices are, respectively, R$15,820, R$14,480, and R$16,810. In any one, the route is covered in about 55 minutes.

Another successful model for air taxi in Ilhabela is the Agusta Power, which accommodates up to six passengers. With it, the flight lasts about 45 minutes and costs R$ 19,360. Speed is precisely one of the differentials of this helicopter, which also has a spacious interior and elegant appearance, guaranteeing a premium flight.

The twin-engine aircraft reaches 311 km/h, reaching up to 23% faster than other common light helicopters. Its cabin is low in noise and vibration, and the seats are made of leather. The luggage compartment is suitable for three medium-sized suitcases and three carry-on bags.

One of the fastest options for the route is the Sikorsky S-76A, which covers this distance in just over half an hour. The investment is also one of the highest for the stretch: R$ 72,880.

It is a twin engine with the best functional cabin in its class, and able to comfortably carry up to 12 passengers. Long known for the standards of excellence among offshore transport helicopters, the S-76A is an aircraft that incorporates technological advances to ensure greater safety and performance day after day, mission after mission. It is one of the darlings for transfers to Ilhabela.
