One of the best-selling jets of all time has Brazilian DNA: we are talking about the Embraer Phenom 300, which has become a phenomenon among light jets since manufacturing began in 2009. In 2012, just a few years after it was launched, this aircraft became the best-selling aircraft in its category.
Recent figures from the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), an American association that brings together industry manufacturers, indicated that in 2021 the Phenom 300 was the world’s most popular twin-jet engine, making it the best-selling model for the tenth consecutive year in its category.
The highlights of the Phenom 300 include the latest avionics equipment (based on the Garmin G3000 system), its leather reclining seats with headrests and armrests (four of them in club seating mode), an enclosed washbasin at the back, a cabin height of 1.5 m and a large luggage compartment of more than 2 m³.
The cabin space is generous and the interior is revolutionary, with a large luggage compartment and improved noise reduction. In addition, it is the largest-range twin-engine aircraft in production, reaching a speed of up to Mach 0.80.
When it comes to performance or durability, we can point out the powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada PW535E engines. Structurally it is designed for 28 thousand flight cycles or 35 thousand hours. In short, the Phenom 300 combines comfort, performance and unmatched technology, with an intelligent design so that it becomes your second home.
Constant improvements
This is one of the concepts followed by Embraer, the manufacturer of the Phenom 300. It was this mentality of the manufacturer that made this the most successful executive jet in the last decade and the fastest and most far-reaching single-pilot jet ever, putting it on the wish list of many people around the world.
This is also due to the combination of technology and ergonomics, reflected in the state-of-the- art, touch-sensitive and programmed cockpit to anticipate all the needs of the pilot, minimizing their workload and fatigue. In this sense, its Synthetic Vision System can show what escapes the eye; while the detection and alert system indicates whether an approach is too steep or too fast – an Embraer exclusivity, the only manufacturer to develop this type of technology.
In addition, tools such as graphical flight planning, vertical navigation, windshear alert, weather radar, ground interference suppression and turbulence detection provide even more situational awareness. And the design of the aircraft’s synoptic screens and avionics create an instinctive interface for the pilot.
Development
The creation of this light jet is related to the previous success of the Embraer Phenom 100. The company’s idea was to consider the opinions of the customers who liked that aircraft the most, which was designed for four passengers, but who also wanted to enjoy the experience with a similar version, only with more seats.
Its development began in 2005, although the first flight took place in 2008, and it was commercialized in December 2009, when the first unit was delivered at the Embraer headquarters in the interior of São Paulo, more specifically in São José dos Campos.
In January 2020, a new version of the Phenom 300 was launched, with more speed and a new engine. Its cabin has become quieter and more spacious, with a new premium interior option. In this version, Embraer’s latest developments are available, such as carbon fiber details and a unique finishing style.
There have also been technological enhancements such as an avionics upgrade, 4G connectivity (via Gogo Avance L5 with coverage for the United States) and satellite connectivity for other regions around the world. This redesigned model also has a customized configuration for medical emergencies.
