At the confluence of the Negro and Solimões rivers, Manaus remains the largest city in northern Brazil. The economic and tourist hub of the region, the capital of Amazonas is also known locally as the Metropolis of the Amazon. Distant from the most populous axes in the country, which as a rule are on the coast, access to the city is still impractical even today. This explains the constant search for air taxi services in Manaus, a sector that developed due to the need to connect the remote region to the rest of Brazil.

Manaus has more than 2.3 million inhabitants and holds the 6th largest gross domestic product (GDP) in the country, according to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Tourism and industry, driven by the Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM), are two of the sectors that most impact the city’s economy – and which are closely linked to the business aviation market. Flying to Manaus in a jet is, for those who can afford it, an easy choice for practicality. Therefore, Flapper offers in this text all the details you need to know before booking your next flight to the capital of Amazonas.

    Airports

Manaus International Airport (MAO, SBEG): the main airport in Manaus is responsible for regional and international connections made by both commercial and executive aviation. Granted as a concession in April 2021 to the French Vinci Airports, the airport will be privately managed for the next 30 years with the promise of reforms to the runways, modernization of terminals, and investments in sustainability.

Flores Airport (SWFN): alternative city aerodrome. Flores airport is managed by the local air club and serves as the headquarters for several air taxi companies in Manaus. With a paved runway 830 meters long, the approval of the equipment allows only daytime operations for landings and takeoffs.

    Aircraft available

The aircraft list on the Flapper platform brings together executive aviation companies from all over Brazil. When making online quotes, passengers are faced with more than a hundred models available for booking. Among so many options, we mention below some aircraft of different categories approved for air taxi in Manaus and that allow operations for the most diverse travel profiles.

Caravan: one of the most used aircraft in air taxi, the Caravan family is an excellent option on flights to and from Manaus. The versatility of this turboprop, which has a range of just over 1,000 kilometers of flight and carries up to 9 passengers, gains new heights in the Grand, EX and amphibious versions – the latter especially suitable for overflights and landings in inhospitable regions of the basin of the Amazon River.

Citation XLS: option for those who need to travel long distances and do not concede a comfortable and silent flight, the Citation XLS carries up to 9 passengers and has the autonomy to fly about 4,400 kilometers. On board this jet it is possible to connect Manaus directly to airports throughout the Brazilian territory, in addition to the South American capitals, including Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Santiago (Chile).

Bandeirante P1: the Embraer EMB 110 turboprop is a legendary figure in national aviation. With approximately 1,500 kilometers of range, the Bandeirante accommodates up to 19 passengers and its structure, with a characteristic rear door, makes it a frequent choice in the transportation of valuables and cargo.

    Freight transport

Unable to meet the needs of the region, road freight transport with Manaus as a source or destination is restricted. Because of this, the flow of production from the Free Zone is done, in large part, by air transport. Despite being a more expensive modal, the value added to the product manufactured in the capital of Amazonas allows companies to achieve a profitability that justifies the operation.

The flow is such that the connection between São Paulo and Manaus is the main route of the air cargo sector in Brazil. Data from the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) show that, in 2019, 29.6 thousand tons were transported from São Paulo to Manaus and 27.6 thousand tons made the Manaus / São Paulo stretch. The city of the North is also included in two other routes in the national top 20: Campinas / Manaus (8,300 tonnes) and Brasília / Manaus (5,200 tonnes). According to ANAC, Amazonas is, with 44.9 thousand tons, the second state with the highest volume of cargo transported by air, after São Paulo.

Cargo, value transport, and aeromedical transport are services that Flapper offers in its portfolio. Contact our experts (numbers below) to find out more.
