As the Brazilian Association of Helicopter Pilots has shown, in 2021 Brazil had a fleet of more than two thousand helicopters. Of these, more than 400 are in São Paulo, which is the largest fleet of this type of aircraft in a single city in the world. So many options mean that every 45 seconds a helicopter lands in the capital of São Paulo – in all, there are more than two thousand daily takeoffs and landings.
The movement is so intense that São Paulo has more than half of the approximately 430 helipads in Brazil. Other cities with a relevant number of aerial equipment are Rio de Janeiro, with more than 60, and Belo Horizonte, with more than 40.
This proliferation of airfields and aircraft has contributed to the growth of the type of air taxi known as urban transfers. This type of flight is nothing more than a short trip within a city or between nearby municipalities.
One of the main benefits of this modality is avoiding traffic congestion in these large metropolises, especially at peak times. Leaving downtown São Paulo towards Guarulhos International Airport (GRU, SBGR) by car, for example, can take two to three hours. Meanwhile, if you opt for an urban transfer from Campo de Marte Airport (RTE, SBMT), the journey takes between 12 and 20 minutes.
How to Book Urban Transfers
In the Flapper app, in a few taps you book your urban transfer. We currently offer this option in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Santiago (Chile), Bogotá (Colombia), and Medellín (Colombia).
First, you choose the city where you are or intend to use the service. A list will then appear with all available airfields, divided by categories (conventional airports, neighborhoods, private helipads, etc.).
After that, it’s time to choose your flight date and time. Then, the aircraft available for charter will appear. In this new screen, all the helicopter models will be shown, together with the price and the number of available seats.
By clicking on the images, you will be directed to a new screen where you can check all the operating certifications available for each helicopter, in addition to conveniences (such as air conditioning, lights, headphones, etc.), seat layout, speed information, and luggage space, among other details.
Before finalizing the purchase, you can add a new segment to the itinerary, repeating the same process. If it is already finalized, just confirm the reservation and proceed to the payment, normally carried out by bank transfer or by virtual EBTA or credit card.
Flapper only works with partners that comply with all the safety standards required by the authorities in relation to their aircraft and teams, ensuring that your trip takes place according to the highest standards. All this implemented with convenience, without headaches, and with an active team to make your life easier whenever you need an urban transfer.

Future of Urban Transport
Flapper is not only concerned with offering the best possible service in the present, but is also always looking for solutions and innovations for the future. One of them is the partnership with Eve Urban Air Mobility Solutions, a subsidiary company of Embraer, whose purpose is to develop the urban air mobility market in Latin America.
Eve is currently developing an electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle (eVTOL) and intends to provide Flapper, in the future, with around 25,000 flight hours in cities such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Santiago (Chile), Bogotá (Colombia) and Mexico City (Mexico).
The aim is to provide an on-demand reservation system for this novelty, which should arrive in a few years. The expectation is that part of the urban transfer routes that are currently made by helicopters will be carried out with eVTOLs, which are already popularly known as flying cars.
