Over the past five years, the number of foreign visitors to Jeri has almost tripled, leading to the construction of the region’s first airstrip and several five-star resorts. The newly built airport (2017) is named after Commander Ariston Pessoa – father of the brothers Ariston Filho and Joaquim, who manage one of the main air taxi companies in the region and whom I had the opportunity to meet in person in 2018.
The Fortaleza – Jericoacoara route in Private Aviation // (FOR, SBFZ) – (JJD, SBJE)
The distance between Fortaleza International Airport (IATA: FOR, ICAO: SBFZ) and Jericoacoara Regional Airport (IATA: JJD, ICAO: SBJE) is 223 km (approximately 139 miles or 120 nm). Compared to the difficult journey of 4 to 7 hours by car/van, the Fortaleza – Jericoacoara route in private aviation appears as the most convenient way to get to the location. Furthermore, flying in a private jet or turboprop guarantees a spectacular view from the moment you take off from Fortaleza airport to your final destination.
Travel time on this route will vary depending on the plane model chosen. For example, these are the average times for different aircraft available for charter in the capital of Ceará:
- Citation CJ4 light jet: 20 minutes
- King Air B200 twin-engine turboprop: 33 minutes
- King Air C90 twin-engine turboprop: 41 minutes
- Cheyenne I twin-engine turboprop: 43 minutes

This route is known for strong winds, so add an extra 5-8 minutes to your itinerary to ensure an accurate arrival. The CJ4 jet is clearly the fastest and most premium option in the region, but before presenting all the available aircraft, let’s see more information about the two airports.
Departure: General Aviation Terminal in Fortaleza
The General Aviation Terminal is located opposite the Commercial Terminal. You can achieve it in two ways:
- Request a van transfer from the commercial terminal to the executive terminal. The service is subject to availability and must be requested in advance, especially during night flights or high season;
- Take a private transfer to the general aviation terminal (about 10 minutes).
The legacy of the old commercial terminal is easily recognizable and, although the location does not have a sophisticated infrastructure, it can be considered safe and efficient.
In general, all passengers must arrive through the common entrance located at Rua Jorge Acurcio, number 1505. Passengers on flights carried out on the Caravan Grand, King Air C90 or Cheyenne can be served through a separate entrance, located 100 meters before the gate main. From there, just a quick security check and you’ll be ready to enter a VIP lounge in one of the five executive hangars located in the terminal.
- Opening hours: the airport is open 24/7. Please check whether the selected aircraft can perform night flight operations.
Arrival: Jericoacoara Regional Airport
